Now that everyone is home together 24-7, scheduling a date night can be tricky. We’ve had to get creative and sneak our moments in. For us that usually means late afternoon, while the youngest is napping and the eldest gets to watch a show or two (or five). We call it happy hour–and what better way to celebrate happy hour than with a wine and cheese tasting!
-Champagne or Chardonnay & Triple Cream–we love Brillat-Savarin and Cowgirl Creamery’s Mt. Tam
-Sauvignon Blanc or Rose & Goat Cheese
-Pinot Noir & Comte
-Sangiovese & Pecorino or Asiago
-Tempranillo & Manchego
-Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah & Aged Gouda
-Port & Blue Cheese–we love Jersey Blue and Rogue Creamery’s Smokey Blue
-Our favorite part is trying new combinations and seeing what each of you prefers!
-Make it a meal by adding a few accompaniments to your spread:
-Charcuterie-salami, prosciutto, turkey
-Nuts-Marcona almonds, pistachios, walnuts
-Dried & Fresh Fruits-apricots, apples, grapes
-Olives-castelvetrano, kalamata, cerignola
We always find lots of cheese board inspiration from What’s Gaby Cooking
Here are some of our favorite retailers to get supplies delivered to your door:
These retail shops also deliver complete boards, so you can spend less time on assemby, and more time eating and drinking!
If you are living that Instacart life, you can also get everything from your local supermarket.
It might seem silly to have so many different cheeses and bottles of wine open for just two people, but variety is what makes it fun! Wine & cheese don’t tend to last very long in our homes (especially now), but you can keep your leftovers fresh longer with these items, so you can make wine and cheese a standing date night each week:
These reusable cheese bags keep leftovers fresher longer
Wine & Cheese night also makes for a great zoom happy hour or birthday celebration with friends! Send out a list of wines and cheeses ahead of time (and gift a box to the birthday boy/girl), so everyone can try the same pairings and compare notes.
You can also take advantage of the virtual tastings that many wineries and retailers are providing either for purchase through their site or on instagram live:
Justin Vineyards –follow their instagram to find their next tasting dates and the link to purchase the wines they will be tasting
Landmark Wines offers private virtual tastings that you can schedule for your group once everyone has received their wines
Follow your favorites on instagram find out when their virtual tastings will take place!
You can find some of our favorite cheese boards, knives, wine glasses and tools in the happy hour and dining in lists in our Amazon shop.
Enjoy and let us know how it goes! Feel free to tag us on Instagram with #celebrateathomeBGE to share. We’d love to see how you’re celebrating!
