So much of our creative process relies on visual brainstorms to bring our vision to life. A key point in the design process is creating renderings of the key design elements to present to our vendors and clients alike. Today, we are exploring how we take each of our renderings to the reality of the build itself!

For last year’s Annual Malibu Chili Cook-Off, we helped our clients at Vintage Grocers to create a recharge lounge for guests to relax, recharge and escape from the heat with some of VG’s signature refreshments! The rendering process went through several phases before we settled on this particular design, which was both design-forward and functional for the event itself.

We wanted to model the tent after the iconic Vintage Grocers at Trancas Country Market, so we worked alongside our creative team at Messex Industries and Bright Event Rentals to create an enclosed tent with a custom-stained wood facade and surrounds, functioning factory sconces and laser-cut signage.

For a combined photo-op and guest entrance point for the HBO surf documentary, Momentum Generation, we created a dimensional backdrop that played off of both the Hawaiian locale and the overall surf culture theme of the film. We built a vintage stained wood-plank wall, and overlayed lasercut comic-inspired art of the tide and a line from the movie, “Go With the Waves.” We layered live tropical foliage and florals to complete the piece.

To bring the look to life, we carpeted the existing parking lot at the Bungalow in Santa Monica in a sand-colored carpet, and drove in an authentic Vintage Woody Wagon, complete with LA-made surfboards for guests to pose with.

For the same event, we had specialty entertainment we wanted to showcase: The Offspring played an acoustic set for guests. To bring that scene to life, we paired more of the slatted wood-style walls with a variety of tropical foliage and a dimensional sign with the movie’s title art.

The result was impactful without overpowering the main attraction, and the instruments really brought the look home!

For a recent intimate 50th birthday celebration, we wanted to create a memorable photo-op for guests, that also served as the backdrop to the event itself. We opted for a play-on-words to hint at the guest-of-honors milestone birthday, while still incorporating design-minded features.

A solid rich gray backdrop with a dimensional neon sign to display the verbiage was the perfect modern contract to the whimsical cascading balloons, which featured gradient shades of whites, grays, metallics and black.
